Our Counsellors and Staff

Our counsellors and staff members are committed to providing a professional and confidential service. WHY Counselling Services are dedicated to assisting up and coming counsellors and supervises and mentor students in their practicum. Here are some of the people that work with WHY Counselling.


Lyn Varty
Counsellor and Manager

Lyn VartyLyn’s counselling experience comes from a background of over 20 years experience in pastoral care ministry, formal qualifications and training overseas; specialising in neglect, abuse and all forms of pregnancy loss including abortion grief.


Lyn draws from a range of therapeutic approaches to suit each clients need along with her extensive knowledge and experience of helping people through some of the most difficult aspects and experiences in their lives. She is someone with great compassion, and sensitivity who is able to work with each client at their point of need whilst encouraging the next step of healing and growth.


Lyn has a private practice, manages Connections Counselling in Mundaring and is available for appointments at both locations. She provides professional supervision and mentors students at both a degree and graduate level in higher education. Students are placed with Lyn as part of the Counselling Practicum component of their courses.


Lyn is the co-ordinator for Hope Alive Australia and is a director for IHACA (International Hope Alive Counsellors Association) and facilitates group therapy for men and women impacted by childhood neglect, abuse and/or pregnancy losses.  


Emma Wilkinson


Emma WilkinsonEmma graduated with a Bachelor of Social Science, majoring in Counselling. She brings a warm, gentle, nonjudgmental approach to the counselling room. She believes it is only through a safe and respectful environment that people are able to truly express themselves, and work through aspects of their lives that are causing difficulty.

Emma's method of counselling is holistic, caring, and supportive. She works collaboratively to achieve people's goals. Emma endeavours to walk alongside people, empowering them with skills and tools to use in order to make their own decisions and changes in their lives.

Emma has experience in working with adolescents and adults in overcoming issues including drug and alcohol addictions, self-harm, grief and loss, trauma, abuse, anxiety and depression.

Emma draws on a variety of different therapies, and introduces them in the counselling relationship where appropriate and helpful.

Emma has a Current Police Clearance and Working With Children Check.


Hope Alive Group Therapy Teams

Hope Alive Group Therapy also involves a team of trained and experience people to facilitate and sponsor each group. Many people are committed and work behind the scenes to support Hope Alive.
